Research

Light

At this point I already had some ideas in my head, however I decided to do some research into the word that I had been give. I want to produce an image that has a different way of showing light and that I a bit more interesting, rather than something such as the sun or candles.

Light can be shown in many different ways, from candles to the sun:

I want to try something different than the more obvious way of showing light, I then thought of different ways you could show light, and my thoughts turned to light trails or painting with light.

I feel that this would be a more interesting and effective way or portraying the work light within a photograph, therefore this is the direction in which I am going to go in.

Texture

I have chosen the word texture which I am going to show within a photograph. I am going to look at natural textures rather than man made textures.

Natural texture:

Man made:

I feel that the texture of something that is natural rather than man made is more interesting, because natural things have the ability to grow how they like in all different ways, where as man made objects do not have that ability, that are made a certain way. I feel I could get a more effective outcome by photographing something that is natural to get an interesting and effective texture within a photo.

Contrast

I have chosen the word contrast for another one of my photos, I want to look at the contrast between two colours. I want to look at the foreground and background, possible having either one of them the main focal point of the photo, to create something that shows contrast and is interesting.

I feel that I could get something interesting by trying to find two things that contrast with each other outside, that are not necessarily natural.

Movement

I have chosen to look at the word movement, for this word I want to look more at the movement of light rather that what my initial thoughts are of, which are people and things moving. I want to produce something that looks different and eye catching, therefore I feel that looking at the movement of light, using a slow shutter speed would enable me to get an interesting outcome.

Natural
The next word that i have chosen in natural, I want to take a photo of something that is completely natural and there has been no human control over the growth. I feel the best way to portray the word natural is to photograph something like flowers or trees, as they are the most natural and grow however they like in wide open spaces, as well as changing colour.

I feel that this is a nice way to show something that is natural, by photographing something that grows naturally.

The colour swatch that I got for this assignment had colours on that ranged from grey to blue. I then had to combine these colours with three different words and produce three different photographs portraying both the colour and the word I have chosen to use.
Having got the colour swatch, my initial thoughts were of the sky as the majority of the time it is blue with grey/white clouds, I then decided I wanted to develop this.
The words that I decided to combine with the colours are: reflection, light and calm.
For each of the photos my intention is to include the sky in some way, providing the relation with the colours on the colour swatch that I had.
